After her career teaching educational classes for 35 years, Linda turned to her second interest: art. Growing up in rural North Carolina gave her the background to depict many of those places, objects, and people she so loved in her paintings. As a resident of both NC and Florida, Linda’s art ranges from mountain ranges to palm trees.

She is mainly a representational landscape painter whose medium of choice is oil. She seeks to represent with her brush (or palette knife) the beauty afforded by nature…to evoke from viewers that same awe she experiences while painting. Linda has work in several galleries and has won numerous local awards for her art.

She seeks to constantly learn. “Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, to grow in some way,” Linda says. In addition to taking classes with different instructors, she has spent numerous years teaching herself by copying the works of the Masters, like Rembrandt,
Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Renoir, Picasso, Cezanne, Van Gogh,
and more just for her personal enrichment.

In 2017, she began teaching oil painting. Combining her two great loves…teaching and painting…has been for her the ultimate experience. Linda’s passion for teaching is evidenced by the dynamic energy she has in the classroom and the ease with which she works with students. Her message to all students is for them to recognize that a completed painting is not a destination: it is all about the process. It is a journey to be savored.

Teachers

Here Linda writes about some of her favorite art teachers:

"I was extremely fortunate to take classes with Bob Travers from Fletcher, NC who teaches at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. Bob is renowned for his incredible life-like wildlife art - in part because he is a true animal lover. He is adept at oils, acrylics, watercolor, scratchboard, pastels - you name it! The rocks and waterfall is one I finished last spring with Bob."

"Spending time in Asheville, NC, put me in contact with some awesome artists at the 310 Art Gallery in the River Arts District. Lorelle Bacon was my first instructor there, and she is a multi-talented, award-winning artist: watercolor, acrylics, oils, pastels, scratchbord, alcohol inks, encaustic, and lately, jewelry making! Lorelle does it all and does it well. The scratchbord horse is one I completed through either classes or workshops with Lorelle."

"As an artist, I am continually looking to learn more and more about painting. I have taken three multi-day workshops with Stephen Koury of Lakeland, FL. From Stephen, I have learned to use gouache paint - an opaque watercolor which is totally different from watercolors and acrylics. The shell and cat I completed in my first workshop with Stephen. I highly recommend taking his workshop. He, too, is renowned for his animal paintings as is Bob Travers."

"Another fantastic teacher is founder and director of the 310 Art Gallery, Fleta Monaghan. Fleta is an expert with color and offers advanced color theory classes and a periodic critique workshop in which artists create then share feedback with fellow artists. Check out her website here."
